This ain’t your Nana’s embroidery.
This Jealous Curator show features eight artists whose work is created using a needle and lots of thread. Long thought to simply be a craft, hand-stitched work is now showing up on gallery walls all over the world, but this time as fine art. Perhaps it’s because the stitching is just the medium the artist is using to communicate their idea, as opposed to pointless cross-stitched baskets of kittens and scenes of flowery meadows… no offense to all of you Nanas out there, we still love you very much.

So sad to not see Katie Dutton here http://www.katiedutton.com She is my fav Canadian artist with thread and ironic wit. ‘Animal Embrace’ series are UNREAL in person. This is a great collection you have found. Beautiful work and thanks for showing.
Thanks Zoe!
And you’re right, Katie’s work is great! I put this show together in August 2009, and found Katie’s work after that, not to mention a bunch of other amazing artist’s who use thread as their medium… hm, maybe it’s time for ‘Sew Jealous II’?
when I think I hate sew a button, this art is till more valous for me! really beautiful and acid!

I absolutely love all your choices! Would live it if you could take a look at my website http://www.pamelasmilow.com
Are you in The NY area?
inthreadulous. I love your taste for irony. When I get sad at the lack of humor and fun that I see on walls in NYC galleries, I go to your site to cheat myself up. Thank you
I mean cheer myself up
thanks charlotta! glad it doesn’t cheat you up… that would worry me ; )
