Crazy beautiful and oh so detailed… what is it? I have no idea. This is the work of London based artist Rowan Mersh, and this is what his site says:
His diverse and experimental approach to creation is epitomized by his ability to take very ordinary materials and transform them into the extraordinary.
Yep! Well whatever all of those bits and pieces are {shells? straws? sequins?}, they’re unbelievably gorgeous in their perfect, organic compositions.
I need an invite to that disco! This is the magical world of San Francisco based artist/illustrator Lindsay Stripling. There’s got to be a weird bedtime story in there somewhere… and I wanna hear it!

First, “Cosmic Animal Gloves”. Second, her name is Bunnie. Seriously, I could not be happier right now. Here’s what LA based artist Bunnie Reiss has to say about this lovely, symmetrical, cosmic, hand-painted series:
“I’ve always been excited by how easy it is to take something old, transform it, and give it a new life. My Cosmic Animal Gloves are one of my favorite on-going projects where I get to play with the idea of old and new, symmetry and our strange connection to the cosmic world of spirit animals.”
Love! She often has a set of these, framed, in her shop … and if she’s sold out, Bunnie will happily make you a set if you just reach out to her. By email. Not cosmically.
Wow. This is the work of Philadelphia based artist Rebecca Rutstein. She describes her work as “exploring geometric abstraction with a vision inspired by science and scientific data.” Now this is my kind of scientific data! Gorgeous.

Prince, snake soup, drawing for nuns, and a handful of bleeps… yep, he does amazing things with oil pastels, and tells some pretty hilarious stories! I met Terrence Payne in 2012 when I was in Minneapolis for Girl Crush. Jennifer Davis was my co-host for that workshop, and it was held at SooVAC, a gorgeous gallery run by an amazing woman named Carolyn Payne… who happens to be Terrance’s wife! A small little world filled with talented, artsy people. Anywho, I got the chance to see Terrence “coloring” on some reallllly big pieces of paper while I was there, and I was an instant fan! Ok, let’s go look… you can listen right up there, or you can subscribe on iTunes.
First up, his ornate yet ‘no one in particular’ figure pieces:
Ah! Those patterns, that detail, the color… how is that oil pastel!?
Next, TEXT. Oh, I love Terrence’s text pieces very, very, very much:

Oh, and here are the big beautiful bears we were talking about. I saw Terrence “coloring” this one in person when I was in Minneapolis way back in 2012, and it has to be one of my favorites:
I wish I could show you the scale (it’s 66″x 66″) because this does not do this piece justice.

Oh my word! This book is AMAZING!!! I talked to New York based artist Andrea D’Aquino on my podcast earlier this year when she was still working on “Once Upon A Piece of Paper”. Well, it’s officially out in the world and it is SO GOOD. Brilliant words of wisdom, tips and tricks for making, and actual step-by-step demos. Oh, and there’s more… a second book filled with paper for you to USE for your own collages. Seriously. So good.

I need alllllll of these. Now, these are not just gorgeous mixed media collages… see those black and white, Rococo-ish landscapes? Yeah. They’re graphite drawings! I totally thought they were found images, but they’re not! Mind. Blown. This is the absolutely lovely work of London based artist Sue Williams A’Court. Sigh. Here are Sue’s words about her work:
Classical landscape references are reinterpreted in a new context, rendered in graphite on a variety of surfaces. The form, composition and materiality are meticulously constructed to summon a state of mind rather than a specific location … The tension between the precision drawing and the loosely painted ground references different models of art history and alludes to contrasting types of mental attention competing for the same psychological space.
Beautiful.
I have written about LA based artist Seonna Hong… a lot. So dreamy, so unique, so weird/wonderful. I love all of the tiny painted details, like the cactus and the people. Oh, but then there’s also all of those big, loose, multi-colored rocks and mountains. Sigh. I’d love to see them in person… well, you can if you’re in San Francisco this month. All of this work is from a new show that’s opening this Saturday, October 8th, at Hashimoto Contemporary. It will be up until October 29th, and yes, this show even includes a few of Seonna’s gorgeous paint chip pieces:

Ok, it’s no secret how much I love LA-based, Tennessee-born Wayne White. If you heard the podcast episode I did with him last December you’ll definitely know! Well, I didn’t think it was possible for me to love him more, but that was before he got strapped to a truck and played his banjo through the streets of New York. Now that’s how you open a show! This gorgeous work is showing right now at Joshua Liner Gallery … but it comes down this Saturday, October 8th, so get over there RIGHT NOW!

I need this wardrobe. Sure, this might just look like a bunch of simple sweaters, jeans, and one very patriotic shirt… until you find out that they’re porcelain! But wait, there’s more. If you want to add a bit of pizazz to your look… copper and nickel plating your hats and shirts is the way to go. Gah! I love this series by LA based artist Ry Rocklen so very much.
