I wrote about Peruvian artist Ana Teresa Barboza in 2013, and today I came across her series titled “Weaving the Moment”… obviously I had to write again. I have a major weakness for work that blurs the line between fine art and craft, and this my friends is a perfect example of that blurry line! I can’t get enough of the tangled embroidered roots dangling from the bottom of her canvases, and that crocheted water spilling from it’s wooden tap… oh my… so, so good!

I’ve written about CHIAOZZA {aka Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao} before, but that post was about a bunch of crazy paper plants. Today is all about these gorgeous, angular, colorful, wooden sculptures! These pieces were hanging at Vox Populi, an artist run space in Philadelphia, last fall. Here’s the description of this work:

“In this series of large-scale wooden sculptures, the visual language of CHIAOZZA is brought to the scale of the human body. Designed as open-ended experiments, the hanging objects skirt between furniture, sculpture, and painting.”

Yep, that’s the kind of furniture, sculpture, painting I want on my wall … hm, I might even be tempted to place one or two of their crazy paper plants on those neon pinewood planks! #bestofboth

I spy with my little eye, so many things that are fantastic! Yep. I love this series, titled “Bowie”, by California based artist Melissa Arendt. There are so many lovely little gems in there! Hm, what do I love most? Is it the teepees, the geometric landscape, or the tiny David Bowie in full-on Ziggy Stardust attire? Hm, I think it might be the fine blend of all of these beautifully drawn/painted bits ‘n pieces living happily together… oh, and a little Breakfast at Tiffany’s reference never hurts either!

Wooden. Cake. I am in love. LOVE! Atlanta based artist David Baerwalde has a portfolio full of all sorts of interesting things, both sculptural and on paper, but it was these layered, raw yet totally perfect, sawdust as coconut, glazed chunks of chocolate ganache, I mean wood, that got me. Sigh. I would love to own a platter of these perfect slices. Amazing.

Bold, colorful, graphic paintings that literally pop off the wall! These are the painted wood pieces of New York based Korean artist Zin Helena Song… love! And speaking of love, scroll back up a tiny bit to see the two pieces that she’s added colored light to! Sigh. Stunning.

A week ago I did post about Lisa Golightly as part of #makegood – a campaign that shone a bright light on several GREAT.LY makers. Well, we decided to turn it into a bit of a competition between tastemakers by putting everyone into teams, and seeing which group could make the most sales for our makers… my team won! Oh. It’s all just so awesome. I mentioned American artist Martha Rich in yesterday’s post, which of course made me want to rush over to her site immediately… so I did. As always, I found a whole bunch of stuff that I LOVE {that first piece is especially perfect given the topic of the Oprah post from yesterday!}. And the pink boobs, well, I think they speak for themselves #storyofthenudes

So simple, but oh, so striking. Wood grain and bright flat colors that I kinda want to touch… I think it’s the beeswax coating that’s calling my name! Yes, beeswax, damar, pigment on panel. These are from a series titled Soft Geometry by American artist Ruth Hiller. Oh, and ps, they’re big. I thought they were little, but some of them are 2 to 3 feet! Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like a bunch of lovey-dovey words that could go up in a roaring hot blaze at any moment! US based artist Pei-San Ng creates these gorgeous pieces from vintage matches {and occasionally even lights them}. Have a lovely, romantic, passion filled day… but be careful… you know what too much passion can lead to:

I wrote about Finnish artist Caroline Slotte almost exactly one year ago… that post was about some insanely beautiful ceramics. Today’s post is about some insanely beautiful trash… carved from wood. Gah!!! Gorgeous! The talent this woman possesses takes my breath away. I wonder what my post about her next January will contain? My guess… something insanely beautiful.
