top 15 most soul-crushing posts of ’09
I truly love every piece of art that I write about, so it’s really hard to pick a ‘Top 10’… so I’m doing a ‘Top 15’. It has literally taken me hours to decide on only 15. Maybe I should do a ‘Top 100’ next year? Anyway, these are the chosen few {in no particular order}. Some of them have inspired my own artwork, others represent major milestones for The Jealous Curator, and the rest just make me really, really jealous. Here’s to the year ahead… may it be filled with cheek-flushing inspiration & soul-crushing jealousy for all! Cheers and Happy 2010!

i’m jealous of aris moore
I could not decide what made me the most jealous of Aris Moore – her sketchbook, her paintings or her collages – so I’m showing a bit of each. I’m a sucker for an animal head on a human body, I even have a few of them in my own portfolio, but they’re not quite like this… hence the jealousy. These look effortless, lovely and a little bit sad. Now, that said, I’ve never actually tried to make a polar bear or a rabbit look sad, but I’m guessing it’s a bit tricky.
i’m jealous of tina berning
There’s something about an artist’s sketchbook that I find very appealing. It feels a bit voyeuristic (hence the chosen image)… getting a little sneak peak into the artist’s thought process, the imperfect lines, and the unpolished ideas.
Tina Berning‘s sketchbook/diary is amazing. On her web site, this section has 335 pieces alone. That doesn’t even begin to include her actual portfolio work, just her sketches! Sigh. And to make matters worse, all of them are lovely and therefore somewhat soul-crushing.
i’m jealous of martha rich’s sketchbook
Not only do I love sandwiches, turtlenecks and butter, but I also LOVE Martha Rich’s sketchbook.
Promise to self: Later today, I will go out and buy a brand new sketchbook that I will then fill with thick paint, crazy creative imagery, and beautiful colours. No really, I will. Martha Rich, you have inspired me.
