Boy oh boy, if you love birds… and paper-cutting… then you are so set! This is the work of French artist Marine Coutroutsios, who now lives in Sydney Australia. These beautifully composed papery/feathery sculptures are her ode to the crazy colorful cockatoos that she happily shares her new city with. Gorgeous.

These are so weird, and so beautiful! Daniel Ramos Obregón is a Colombian designer/fashion artist who just recently graduated with an MA Fashion Artefact at London College of Fashion. This body {pun intended} of work is titled Outrospection, The Body and Mind. It is a collection of hand crafted porcelain body casts, gold plated brass metal frames that encompass the body, hand turned Colombian kingwood handles, and vegetable-tanned leather harnesses. Weird. And so beautiful.

Ok, this is exactly how I want to end this insanely busy week… with hilarious, weird, and ridiculously sweet artwork hanging from the ceiling! LA based artist Kim Baise creates these crazy mobiles with papier mache, paint and found sticks, which she then lovingly assembles with natural hemp twine. So awesome. ps. I’m gonna need that bike-riding-lollipop-licking unicorn, and a strawberry swirl ice cream ASAP.

I wrote about London based artist Claire Brewster waaaaay back in the fall of 2009. Her birds cut from vintage maps made my heart beat a little faster, and they still do! All of these pieces are new to her portfolio {and online shop}, but the true reason for today’s post are Claire’s newest flock. They’re still gorgeous, but instead of being cut from maps…

… they’re brass! Acid-etched brass birds, that look like lace, pinned precariously to a charcoal wall. Love, love, love!

Delicate, feminine, white clothing… CARVED FROM MARBLE! This is the work of Edinburgh based artist Alasdair  Thomson. I found this paragraph on his site, and it’s written so well that I thought I’d just copy ‘n paste:

Through his current series of sculptures, Alasdair is exploring the way fabric hangs and folds, and is attempting to capture that lightness and gracefulness in stone. Named ‘The Identity Collection’, his recent sculptures are carved copies of garments donated by his friends and family. Seeking to capture the characters of those he invited to donate, he surrendered the control of the content of the series by allowing others to submit garments of their choosing for him to carve. The results are simple and understated, as well as timeless and nostalgic.

LOVE! These papery Dr.Suess-esque leaves and pokey cacti make me want to get knee-deep in neon paint and paper-maché paste… so colorful, so tactile, so fantastic! This is the work of collaborative duo Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao. They’ve been working together since 2011, “exploring play and craft across a range of media” … which includes not only these crazy plants, but also things like their pancake prints for example! Hilarious!

Gasp! Gorgeous, delicate, GIGANTIC flowers… made entirely of paper! PAPER. This is the stunning work of San Francisco based architect/artist Tiffanie Turner… those happen to be her dress-covered legs in the first photo of the post, just to give you a sense of scale. Yep, these botanical beauties all range between 23″ to 36″ in diameter… a light pink dahlia that is three feet across? Yes. I am going to need that. All of these insanely amazing flowers are part of a show called “Heads” that is currently showing at Rare Device in San Francisco. The show is up until May 28th, so take a break from working in your real garden and go visit this ridiculously gorgeous paper garden… no weeding necessary! [Opening reception: May 9th from 6 – 8pm]

It’s Friday… the perfect day to show you some GIANT CANDY! This amazing project is the work of Nicola Freeman, and was part of the degree show at the University of Wolverhampton. Granted, she graduated a few years ago, but when you find a giant candy necklace, and the biggest love hearts you’ve ever seen in your entire life, you just share ’em, right?! Now, just in case you were planning on eating her entire grad show, please don’t. They’re made of very un-eat-able plaster {and resin for the lollipop}, but boy oh boy, they sure look tasty from here. Sigh… so good. Ok, now, run out to the nearest candy shop and get yourself a weekend treat!
