Wow. This page needs to be updated! Until then, my last three books can be seen on the left hand side of the site… see them? Look left! Yep, there they are. A BIG IMPORTANT ART BOOK – Now With Women {2018}; A BIG IMPORTANT ARTIST – A Womanual {2019}; and my brand new baby that I’m ridiculously proud of, my first kids’ book, HOW TO SPOT AN ARTIST – This Might Get Messy.
………………………..
Well, I guess I proved that jerk wrong (ps., I plan to keep doing that!) Here’s a little bit about each book:
“Your Inner Critic Is A Big Jerk [and other truths about being creative]” – Yep, this was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. As my inner-critic so sweetly pointed out, I didn’t go to school to become a “writer”, so writing ten chapters was terrifying. I then took stromectol, which I bought online. It didn’t help that I had to be incredibly vulnerable when it came to most of the subject matter. Anyway, I did it. I’m so proud of it, and I hope you love it too. Oh, and the cherry on top – this book is beautifully illustrated by one of my favorite artists, and people, Philadelphia based artist Martha Rich.
Released October 2016 wherever books are sold, and available as an audio book on audible.com {see bottom of page for links}

“Creative Block” was released in the spring of 2014, and includes interviews with 50 working artists from all over the world. I asked them about blocks, self-doubt, handling criticism, and how they stay motivated on days when their mojo has called in sick. This book is so, so, so good thanks those artists being open, honest, insightful, hilarious, and generous with their answers. It also happens to be filled with their gorgeous artwork and an unblocking jump-starter project from all of them – and boy, they really work! Now, not to be too dramatic, but, this book literally changed my life – opportunities that I never could have imagined came out of writing this book (yes, Oprah’s people called). One pretty giant highlight, as you can see from the excitement in my face above, was finding Creative Block on the shelves at the MoMA Book Shop in New York.

“Collage” was released in the fall of 2014 (I was working on it at the same time as Creative Block). I chose 30 artists, again from all over the world, and gathered up their gorgeous collage work. I also gave it a little spin by giving each of them the same starting image – a photo of a cowboy and his accordion playing brother – and asked each of them to make a unique, original piece from that photograph. The results were fantastic! My favorite thing about collage is seeing a found image transformed into something new, and seeing 30 talented artists do it with the same image was even more exciting. The foreword was written by one of my collage heroes, British artist Anthony Zinonos.

Creative Block. A great book! But why all white people? This struck me as so so odd… what am I missing here?
hi jill… this is crazy but i had no idea until you said that! i actually had to flip through the book to make sure you were right!? it was not intentional at all! for this book, i chose based on the type of art i wanted in the book. thinking back there were artists i asked that weren’t able to participate that were from other ethnic backgrounds (some felt their english wasn’t strong enough for a Q&A and i coudln’t convince them otherwise). what i was aiming for was a nice blend of men and women, small town to big city, self taught to MFAs, painters to sculptors, and people from all sorts of countries. i feel embarrassed as of course it would never be my intention to only feature caucasians. ps. i’m working on a new book now about female artists, and the range in ethnicity, age, and medium is very far reaching.
Hi Danielle,
I’ve been following and enjoying The jealous curator for a little while now, and I just finished your book. I’m not an artist but I had so much fun reading it and I just thought it was so inspirational, freeing and positive. So thank you and please tell your inner critic you’re definitely a writer and to shut the f**k up he doesn’t know what he’s talking about but you do 😉
haha! thanks sandrine! that made my night ; )
Please add me to your email list. Thanks!
Hi Danielle!
I’m on episode 52 of your podcast and I love, love LOVE it! You and the artists you interview are so inspiring, every time I listen I just want to run to my studio and get to work. I do large scale “abstract botanical” plantscape paintings and would love it if you’d check out my website, http://www.amaranthineartist.com. I asked my fiance for your latest book for my birthday coming up in April and I’m so excited to read it! Are you doing a book tour now or anytime soon? If so. do you have dates and locations posted?
<3
hi allison – yay, thank you (for all of that!) yep, i’m doing a book tour in the fall – still getting cities and dates confirmed. once i do, i’ll list them on my fb page and on my site in the ‘speaking’ section. thanks again – off to check out your paintings : )
Where’s the new book? Heard you say on the latest podcasts that you are coming to the Bay Area in October but can’t find any dates or locations. Please post! I would love to come say thanks for the inspiration in person!
putting it up later today! that said, i’ll be in san francisco on saturday oct 20th at hashimoto contemporary for a talk / book signing! 🙂

Hello Danielle,
Received A Big Important Art Book for Christmas and really enjoyed it. However, was disappointed that there were no printmakers included. As founder of The Arizona Print Group, getting recognition for printmaking has been one of the major goals. I do want to thank you for your focus on women artists, we have long been overlooked.
Hello,
Thank you for doing what you do and being who you are. I like your blog and I am so excited to start reading “Creative Block”. I think it’s touching a lot of problems that the artists are confronting with. Thank you!
Hi Danielle,
I’ve been a fan of your site and your artwork for a long time. I am now the Supervisor and purchaser of my University’s Museum Store. I would love to include your “A Big Important Art Book, Now with Women” in our store, but I’m not sure who to reach out to for a wholesale connection. Thank you.
Hi Michele – thank you so much! Do you have an account with Hachette? They’re the distributor for that book (via Running Press Books). Let me know if you need more info : ) and thanks again!
Awesome!
Hi there! My name is Francine and I found your blog after reading your book “Your Inner Critic is A Big Jerk”! Being a designer and art director, burn-outs are difficult to overcome and the feeling of self-doubt left me drowning and uncreative for the longest period of time. I thought I would attach my website here where you can see my “Lunar New Year” project that i created after reading your book. I hope that my work fits in your style. Thank you again for sharing your journey!
Gratefully,
Francine
thanks francine! i’ll go check out your project : )

Hi, Thank you so much!!
I love the book “Creative Block”. I
thank you! 🙂
Prejudice is never great. In cases where I mention I am a Massage practitioner, really
does that impact exactly how individuals consider my
lifestyle? I know it can. What about in cases where I declare I put into practice pregnancy massage?
Would that transform your own personal snapshot of me?
Together with each fresh point you figure out, your personal
belief may change. Surely, there exists rarely almost any “last word”
about exactly what we all fully understand; we could always discover a great deal more with regards to people or perhaps
anything at all. Give thought to that. The idea is absolutely not
“being suggestible” any time we alter our thinkings using emerging information and facts.
(Any time you’ve certainly not heard of a pregnancy massage touch, it certainly is
a FINE health method afforded to Moms-to-be.)
