i’m jealous of soasig chamaillard
If pop culture got up on Sunday morning and decided to go to church, I’m pretty sure it would look something like this! Yep, French artist Soasig Chamaillard has filled the pews with a few very recognizable pop icons including My Little Mary, Super Mary and of course, my favorite, Hello Mary.
ps. I thought I should add this statement from the artist, just as an FYI… “I don’t use Holy Marie as my subject to shock a catholic public. I like to play with icons, like a [child] with his toys, to try to understand the world which surrounds me.”

I want… no, I NEED them all! this is incredible!
ps. I am Catholic and absolutely in tune and in love with these works
oh good! i know her intent is not to offend anyone. they’re just so fantastic, right?!
These are genius. I like to think that God has a sense of humor anyway.
… and who doesn’t love Hello Kitty? I’m sure even God thinks she’s cute ; )
Okay…where is the Lady Gaga version…huh…right now…
Pretty pony…gonna ride away cause it is just so cheeky…OMG. Love them all.
I love all of these works. Especially the astronaut. I also like that they put “My Little Mary” on the horses butt.
me too!
Haha omg! These are spectacular.
So let’s see you mock the religious beliefs of Jews, Muslims and Buddhists now.
i’m sorry that you see it as mocking. i don’t believe that was her intent.
I have a few icons I’ve created including a Jesus Hook (his hand was broken off when I got the Infant of Prague statue following the death of a friend, hence the cup hook and continued abstraction). These take my thinking in a whole new direction. Thanks for sharing
Very disrespectful.
These are WONDERFUL!!! I love Iconography, especially as a recovering Catholic. Don’t let any of those negative folks who apparently have no sense of humor get you down. These are brilliant! Will you be my new best friend??? 🙂
P.S. Favoriting your blog…
; ) thanks david!

I make blasphemous jokes frequently, so I’m not sure why I find this upsetting. The symbolism, juxtaposition, and colors are great…but I just feel odd.
Instead, I find it very sad…I am Catholic, and I would feel the same even if another important person of another religion was treated like that! 🙁
I might be going to hell but I will be riding My Little Mary when I do! I am jealous too. Keep the art feed coming, I am hungry for more.
i’m on it! : )
I am a Catholic contemplative nun with a deep love for Mary and I have’t stopped laughing with sheer joy at these inspired works. Super Mary , oh yes!
oh good! i’m glad you can see the fun/humor in them! i know that soasig did not want to offend anyone (which is why i included her artist statement).
What a shame. I’m saddened to see that the creator of these items can only express him/herself my degrading what others hold sacred. What’s next? Painting clown faces on photographs of holocaust victims?
Also, Bonnie, I don’t believe for a second you are a Catholic contemplative nun. But if you are, I question your devotion. Our Blessed Mother should always be revered and honored.
