i’m jealous of louise weaver

Well, part of me is very jealous of Melbourne based artist Louise Weaver… I will easily admit that I wish I was the one behind the concept, vivid colour choices, and meticulous execution of these fabulous sculptures. However, the other part of me is really happy that I wasn’t the one who had to touch these taxidermied birds* while dressing them in their hand-crocheted outfits!

*Yes. There are real birds under all of those pom-poms and sequins!

I just found your blog today! Thank you for introducing me to Louise Weaver – I’m all agog. Do you know Annette Messager’s work? Her little dead sparrows collection for which she knitted tiny sweaters hooked me when I saw them on exhibit at MOMA years ago.

YES! her work is amazing! but again, i wouldn’t want to touch any dead birds… maybe that’s why i’m not a famous artist?

Wow, those are incredible! My first thought was “how on earth did those birds hold still long enough to have body suits put on them??” Taxidermy. That makes sense now. 😉
