laurent craste
This is the work of Montreal based artist Laurent Craste. All of these pieces are from his series titled, “Abuse”. So strange to see something as delicate as porcelain treated this way, yet not actually broken. Never broken. So beautiful and so powerful… and could be interpreted in so many ways. {I survived an abusive relationship, in my early 20s, and this work gives me chills/makes me a bit sad… but also incredibly proud. Proud that, just like this porcelain, I didn’t break either.}
Intriguing and heartbreaking. Inspirational! Also beautiful and simultaneously hard to look at.
On an aside, I’m glad you survived that relationship in your 20’s too. You put so much beauty out in to the world.
Thank you!
agreed, agreed… and thank you (me too!)
The work itself communicates the idea of cruelty, transgression but after reading the explanation it’s absolutely heart-rending. It’s amazing the capacity of human being to surpass calamities and transform pain in beauty and a way in which many can recognize that after all, you had been deeply hurt, but not broken.
Thank you
i’m not absolutely sure that this is what laurent intended with this series, but given my personal experiences that’s how i interpreted it ; )
