Here we are! All of the images that go hand in hand with my very first attempt at being a “podcaster”! The first episode is an interview with one of my favorite artists, Philadelphia based Martha Rich. We talked about all sorts of things, including all of the pieces shown here. Out of context they probably won’t make much sense, but hopefully you’re listening to the podcast right this very second {hint hint – it’s right up there, or you can subscribe right here}, so you’ll understand why all of these things are posted. Oh, and if you really want to make your weekend interesting, I propose taking a shot of something every time I say “That is AMAZING!” … time to get a thesaurus, Danielle. Geesh.
Anyway, I hope you love listening to ART FOR YOUR EAR as much as I love making it! ps. I know it’s a bit echoey… perhaps I shouldn’t have recorded it from an empty cave!? Maybe I need blankets for my walls? Cover my office in egg cartons? I dunno. Bare with me, I’ll figure it out!

And that’s a wrap! Thanks so much to Martha for taking the time to do this with me… also a huge thank you to Greg for being an amazing producer/podcast expert, and to my brother Cameron for writing, and playing, original music for me! And finally, thanks to you for listening!!! xo The next episode will be up in two weeks, Saturday June 6th this Saturday, May 30th … this is too fun… I’m going to do one every Saturday!
Just stumbled upon your podcast today and I LOVE IT! I love the conversational tone and please don’t edit anything out….it’s all so perfect and so needed in the podcast landscape.
hi danielle. just listened and laughed. i especially loved the ‘name-dropping’ bragging portion of the interview. “who owns your work?” …you should always ask that question of your guests. i think that is most revealing of the appeal of your artists.
website, books, podcasts….is there Nothing you cant do???? what’s next? sky-writing!
ha! thank you both so much! no worries, no editing happening over here… hence the 5 “that is amazing”‘s in there (?!) … and yes bruna, sky-writing is next on my list. how did you know!? ; )
Loved the podcast! I always felt too intimidated to talk to artists and now you’ve done it for me, thanks. I laughed and now I am also inpired, thanks so much!
Loved that!!! But HAVE now got to google if baby lobsters are chicks!!!! Lol
Love, love, loved this! First your IG, then you Saturday morning emails and now this… People are probably getting tired of hearing me say, “today on the jealous curator…” Also love the pieces!
You are the best 🙂

Awesome!!! (hiccup) Love your questions, your breeziness, and I think the Trivial Pursuit question was a genius idea! Totally inspiring, as is everything you do!!

This is so AMAZING! Love all the questions, Martha’s art is fantastic, and the whole vibe is really fun. Can’t wait to listen to the next one. Thanks for inviting us to be a part!
Love it. Looking forward to more good stories.
thank you! (and thanks nicole – so honored to have saatchi art’s support for these episodes!)
I’ve been on the hunt for an “art history” podcast for some time now. It seemed that the podcast form wasn’t well suited for the subject as the listener was missing the visuals discussed. Well Danielle, you’ve solved it! Marrying the blog with the podcast is genius. I so enjoyed your conversation with Martha…..It’s fun to hear where all of her diverse imagery comes from. Can’t wait for the next podcast! Bravo!
oh! thanks so much jennifer – yep, i always find that annoying too… I WANT TO SEE THE ART! ; )

You are a natural.
It was fantastic to get a taste of Martha Rich too – she’s so interesting!
yay! thank you so much monika! yes, martha is AMAZING 😉
I stumbled upon your instagram a few weeks ago and rolled over to your website and immediately subscribed to your podcast. I live in Botswana (southern Africa) and find it extremely difficult to find material that discusses art in the way that I am interested in it – in a conversational manner. I studied art for some time in school and continue to throw colour to paper every now and then but I am by no means a professional. I love the way you deal with the art but I’m so much more interested in knowing about artists inspiration behind their work and absolutely love hearing that sometimes there really isn’t anything profound. love!
wow! thank you so much krupali. i can’t believe you’re listening from botswana! so cool! (and i’m so happy that i’m bringing you something you want – i’m addicted to making them now so there are lots more on their way!)
I just got around to listening to your first podcast, sorry, I’m late to the party. It’s SO good. I’m really excited about listening to the next few that are lined up on my phone. This weekend I plan to walk around London in the sunshine and enjoy them all. Really great work. It was so nice when I got back to my computer and looked at the images that you had talked about, so I am going to look at the images after listening. It’s great work and I felt inspired after listening to you and Martha. Thank you.
oh thanks so much louise! wandering around london in the sunshine… that sounds like a great venue for podcasts! (thanks for listening to mine!)
Im also late to the party!! Loved listening to this first podcast and so looking forward to going thru all of them! You are so genuinely lovely!
Nice podcast. I just discovered this site and am going to listen to a podcast a night.
BTW I am so going to brag about knowing what a male and female lobster is called in gatherings as I am sure nobody will know the answer.
Cheers
Dear JC–You are an excellent podcaster. And this one with Martha Rich (your first?!) was the bees knees (or, pertaining to the podcast, “the cock’s socks”?) I am now a dedicated listener, so onward!
haha! thanks deb : )
This is it. I started today to listen to every single episode of AFYE. I´ve been following and listening for a while now but I need more dosis than one a week so, I started here! Love your work, truly. Love Martha too. You are both amazing. I sound like a groupie but I don´t care. Thank you for everything one more time!
Just the other day I was listening to Mark Maron and thinking, “Somebody needs to do a podcast about art,” and here you are! I have an hour and a half commute three days a week so I’ll be catching up sooner or later. I am SO happy to have found you!
yay! thanks so much barbara
