nicole tijoux
I wish I knew what’s happening in these wet ‘n washy paintings by Chilean artist Nicole Tijoux… my theory… I imagine all of them running and huddling in a torrential downpour. What do you think? And Nicole, if you read this, let us know!
And speaking of being in water {if they are in fact in rain}, I also love this dreamy piece from her portfolio:
Ahhh.
The thing that sprang to my mind was ‘tear gas’.
I was thinking blast, or sandstorm… They’re beautiful but all a bit discomforting.
I thought snow
Thanks so much for this post the jealous curator! And in answer to your question, yes and no, it’s not a torrential downpour from the sky it’s from the water canoon that the police use to control demostrators ( protest) by hitting them with a high-speed stream of water. So, my work studies visual transformations that a body has when interacting with water, how the figure actives the background with it. Also the way the shape vanishes in the vapor of the water, and the ghostly appearence of the body. I tried to explore different pictorial ways to solve the image, to splash paint, or dripping it, or many watercolur effects.
Thanks for your comments!
ah, yes… you can tell that there is something dramatic happening. thank you so much for the description (stunning work!)
Thanks to you
These are exquisite.
These are stunning. I immediately thought of the refugee camps when I saw them.
Amazing work. Loved them all!
Stunning. I fell in love when I saw it on IG, but I admit, a bit uncomfortable, too. Something about their positioning indicated it was not just rain, but a rather more insidious reason for bending the way they are. I want to get all washy with my watercolors today. Thank you for these, Nicole! So inspiring.
I love these paintings – something very ethereal about them, as if the people are disappearing into their surroundings.
The moment I saw it, I thought of all the refugees trying to get to Europe and escape war…It’s constantly raining here in Greece these days and it’s really bad… help in whatever way you can!
May art unite the world!
