Oh boy, here we are… episode no.2 of ART FOR YOUR EAR. I said it would be every second Saturday, but I’m having way too much fun, so there will be a new one every Saturday! Up this week… ah, my collage idol, UK based artist Anthony Zinonos. Everything we talk about in the podcast is shown here so that you can follow along while we’re chatting. You can listen right up there {see, just under the lined “water”}, and you can also subscribe on iTunes.
I loved talking to Anthony {or maybe I should call him ‘Paul’}, and I hope you love listening! ps. I’m slowly figuring out the “sounding like I’m recording in a cave” thing. I recorded the intro & outro for this episode under a blanket {I’m not kidding, it was like a little podcast fort}, but I’d already recorded the interview. Just a few more interviews that sound cave-like, and then we should be in full-on blanket fort mode! That’s how the professionals do it, right?
……….
Collage {my second book} Anthony wrote an amazing foreword, and of course, his work was featured as well:
Anthony and I talked about how one image can be used in totally different ways by different artists – that was actually the premise of this book {why we didn’t talk about that, I’m not sure!}. Anyway, the image on the left was the starting photo that I gave to all thirty of the artists in “Collage”… the image on the right is what Anthony created. ps. that cowboy and accordion player are my uncle and my dad!
……….
‘justGOtalkTOher’ & ‘theGREAToutdoors’ {the beach & picnic I referenced}
……….
I cannot even deal with this… look what Anthony’s dad just sent me! A “collaborative piece/scam” between Anthony and his sister {and Anthony’s first collage, age 10}… apparently they’re still waiting for the money:
……….
And that’s that! A huge thank you to Anthony for always saying ‘yes’ whenever I ask him to do stuff, and for teaching me to simplify and “let go.” If it buckles, it buckles right? Right! I also want to give high fives to Greg for being a fabulous producer, and to my brother Cam for creating the original music for me. And finally, thank YOU so much for listening xo ps. Episode no.3 will be up next Saturday!
oh i loved that. informative and funny … and what a nice guy! well done jealous curator
Oh, I cannot wait to listen! Your first podcast rocked. So excited there will be a new podcast every Saturday. Keep them coming!
What a great guy! Easy breezy conversation and just a delightful interview! Just loving these podcasts~melding two of my loves, art and podcasts. What could be better. Looking forward to future ones. Thank you Danielle!
thank YOU! so excited to keep making them… i feel so lucky to be able to chat with all of these amazing people!
Your podcast is such a treat! I listened on my drive home this evening and in 5-4-3-2-1 I’ll be covered in GLUE! Listening to you and Pau..um Anthony has inspired me to rummage my vintage knitting book collection. THANKS!! Keep up the great work. ***hugs and hi5s***
yay!!!! that makes me so happy! have fun! : )
Brilliant!!
Gonna go to town on the vintage photos I found yesterday. I was feeling weird about chopping them up AND about my paint chips, which have been buckling a bit, but this interview changed my mind. My paint chip collages are suddenly feeling even MORE inspired!! Thanks, Danielle and Anthony. p.s. Love the yellowed tape residue on his ransom note collage.
YAY!!!! that is so exciting amy! have so much fun… and if it buckles, it buckles 😉
And also, he he he naked lady.
haha!
Another brilliant episode Danielle. As a collage artist myself, it was great to hear you and Anthony talk about process and materials. (Uhu glue. Can’t believe that’s what he uses!) You’re really a natural at this podcasting thing. I’m looking forward to next week!
i know!? uhu stick!? WHAT!? it made me love him even more ; )
Girl, I would have panicked too if one of my inspirations said something to me like “You’ve changed my life.” Huh what?! Amazing. Keep it up.
Thank you so much for asking my preverbal questions to all Collage Artists, their glue of choice and they favourite ground paper! So valuable to know the preferences.
This interview was very inspiring and helpful…
had to! always looking for new ways to glue stuff to other stuff 😉
I SO love Anthony’s work.
Ahhhhh, would that my brain could add, subtract and multiply in this way………
This is so great! I love seeing the mural all large and in charge. VERY cool… especially the construction paper… simple is so great! 🙂 <3 this interview was tops.
So cool! I was actually feeling a little blue today, until I listened to the podcast. It made me smile and now I’m off to cut and paste! Looking forward to next Saturday’s edition. Thank you!
YAY!!!!
I loved the podcast! I am an architect based in Netherlands, and I think it’s really interesting how “more ambitious” architecture offices are using now the collage media for presenting their work. Now the avant garde of architectural world doesn’t like the photo realistic renderings anymore – the collage style seems to be more suitable when it comes to make emotion based impression about space. The experimental offices from 70’s are the best inspiration – see ARCHIZOOM and SUPERSTUDIO.

From the contemporary stuff, the works of OMA and Office KGDVS are worth checking out.

The main difference is that now we are using Photoshop for this purpose. Maybe it’s taking out the authenticity of the artwork – but I am not sure.
oh! so gorgeous, and interesting, natalia!
Lovely! Just wanted to say I’m really enjoying the podcast.
thanks lori! : )
Danielle – I am so enjoying your podcasts. You are so kind and humble but you provide such a great support and network to connect or learn about other artists.
Awesome podcast. I’m loving them all. They are wonderful to listen to while I work on my own art in my Vancouver studio. I have a question about Anthony’s work though, what about copyright issues? I always thought it was not ok to cut up other people’s photos and use them in your own art (to sell). I’m curious to know how he gets around the copyright issues. Thanks!
[…] negative space, and his full-on ownership of ‘less being more’. Anthony was guest number TWO on my podcast, and it’s still one of my favorite episodes. May I suggest pulling a chair out into the sun […]
Great pod cast!!!!! I couldn’t understand what kind of glue stick he uses. Can you clarify please? Thank you!!!!
