Photographs? No. Paintings? Well, there is paint on there… black acrylic paint on canvas, but the images are made entirely of many, many, many tiny hand-punched perforated holes. WHAT? Yes. This is the large-scale, hole-filled, totally entrancing portrait work of Norwegian artist Anne-Karin Furunes. From the moment I saw the first piece, I was in complete awe… and honestly, trying to figure out exactly how she did this! They must be photos. Or paintings. They can’t just be holes… oh, but they are. I highly recommend watching this lovely video interview with Anne-Karin about her work, and her process {and you really have to see the scale!}. Amazing.

    Great work – please fire the sound designer on video though. That piano is so painfully dull and this work is so not dull at all. I want to see what she does with the circles.
