i’m jealous of lucas grogan

Ok, I’m jealous of anyone that can concentrate long enough to make something this unbelievably detailed! These amazing pieces are from a series, titled Black & Blue, by Melbourne based artist Lucas Grogan. Is anyone else getting a hand cramp just looking at these! So many tiny blue lines!

{ps. this work is ink, watercolor & acrylic on mat board and averages about 32x24cm}

    I really like these, but I also know about the questionable context under which they were created. These works have been criticised for appropriating Indigenous motifs. Perhaps, on occasion, it would be great if you’d discuss the conceptual framework for the artwork you post – otherwise it just becomes pretty pictures. Art is powerful when it means something. Keep up the good work, you post some lovely things, of which there is definitely a place for!

    Also, just to clarify – I quite like Lucas Grogan’s work 🙂 I just think the broader debate is as interesting. Thanks!

    Thanks Liz – I didn’t realize that there was debate about this work (although yes, I thought it looked very Aboriginal the moment I saw it). Thank you for bringing attention to it. Sometimes I dig, sometimes I don’t. This time I didn’t… thanks for catching me on it : )

    Lucas Grogan is jealous of Aboriginal Artists – thats why he has to rip them off. Cant wait for him to get his own culture and grow up

    is there any room for ‘inspired by’? he doesn’t claim to be aboriginal, just that he inspired by that type of art.
