i’m jealous of philip barlow
Ahhh, summer. You can almost feel the warmth of the sun, and smell the salty sea air, can’t you? These paintings {yes, paintings?!} are by South African artist Philip Barlow. Realistic, but not… like an old, out of focus photograph. So lovely. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the beach! Ok, not really… but wouldn’t that be a nice way to spend the day? Yes it would!
Love these! They remind me of being home on Cape Cod.
It’s like when you squint your eyes because the sun is so bright. 🙂 Lovely!
These are so beautiful. Makes me feel like I’m right there, with my glasses off. 🙂
haha!
LOVE these! They remind me exactly of the comparison Marla made.. that same feeling when you’ve been lying in the sun for a long time and then try to open your eyes.
Great find! Doing a little summer lovin’ of my own over on the blog on Friday. 😉
Just wonderful !!!

I’ve been doing a lot of work with Corel Painter and these paintings remind me a lot of the results that can come from photos. Are you sure that isn’t how they were done? Don’t get me wrong, I still consider artwork produced this way as bonafide paintings, it’s just that the medium is different. I have quite a few versions in different styles of this kind of digital transformation on my website, if anyone’s interested. I also have a YouTube demo of how it can be done. (It’s under the “Home” menu).
Hum, an error with the link to my website. Trying again.
nope – those are paintings. perhaps he works from digitally altered images (?) but the final pieces are paintings.
I think your work is amazing! I enjoy the beach scenes the most. 🙂

I have this frustrating desire to sharpen the focus.
But I guess they are meant to be soft edges.
Still, very mood catching..the beach feel.
