i’m jealous of amy ahlstrom

So there I was, enjoying a coffee and cranberry scone while writing posts for the coming week, when the work of Bay area based artist Amy Ahlstrom arrived in my inbox {I love it when that happens}. Apparently, I also love it when quilts and street art become BFFs. Amy, aka The Urban Quilter, mixes the grit of the street, with the softness of fiber art. The result is “a visual love letter to an urban neighborhood or city”… in quilt form. Fantastic, no?

{FYI: “Amy’s quilts will be appearing LIVE at a.Muse Gallery in the Mission starting June 9th. 614 Alabama St. SF. To get an invite go to: http://www.yourmusegallery.com and press contact.” Thanks for the info a.Muse!!}

    These quilts are just fantastic! I love how contemporary they are, but still completely accessible. And, they’d make you nice and warm and snuggly on a couch!

    Bawhat? This is awesome! I totally recognize all the signage she’s using from my hood… and one of those stencils looks like one from one of my best friends. What the hay? 🙂

    very cool! yes, a lot of her imagery is taken from neighborhoods/streets in san francisco (that’s where you are, right?)

    Beautiful! I would love to have one of those hanging on my walls. I doubt I could bring myself to cuddle with it and ruin it with coffee stains.

    Yes, and I just showed my friend and it is her! How wild. She made that stencil years ago and put it all over town. How funny…
